Sorrento
Sorrento sits on the western end of the Amalfi coast overlooking the bay of Naples. It is a beautiful location on the top of a high cliff, filled with shops, restaurants and hotels, making it a favorite home base for touring southern Italy. there is easy access by boat to Naples or the amazing islands of Capri and Ischia. The towns of the Amalfi coast, Positano, Amalfi Maiori and Salerno. A train, the circumvesuviana, will take you to Pompeii and Naples. A bus will also take you along the picturesque Amalfi coast road to the Amalfi coast towns. However, be warned, while the bus ride is amazing, it can also induce seasickness as the bus goes up and down and winds around the mountainside.
These views show views of Sorrento from the Bay of Naples and the Bay of Naples from Sorrento. If you arrive by boat at the harbor, there is a steep staircase winding up the cliff, you can walk up or down for free. Thankfully, if like me, you are not young, there is also an elevator for only about two dollars.
Bellissima vista!
